The Universal Exercise Unit is a versatile piece of equipment. It is used as a partial body weight support system by utilizing a leather belt and 4 bungee cords. This allows the child to feel stability from all 4 corners of the unit as well as allows the therapist to adjust the amount of support given. It is also used for strength training activities by attaching a pulley system to the unit. The therapist can isolate specific muscles and joints for exercise.
The LiteGait is a partial body weight support device that works by placing a harness on the child and attaching that harness to the system. This device allows a child to be safely supported while walking over ground or over treadmill in any environment, whether at home, in school,
or in therapy.
The Tree House was donated and built by our local Jaycee's. The Tree House has steps of various heights with removable handrails. It also has a crawl space underneath and a tube slide for vestibular input. This is one of the favorite activities for many of the children who participate in therapy at the Center.
The Sensory Room was added after a benefit concert done by Kenny Rogers. This room was designedby the
people at TFH. There is a heated
waterbed, tactile wall, sound squares,
fiber optic strings, 3 bubble columns equipped with switches, a panoramic wall projector and lighted tiles for speech and language development.
This space also has a swing that can be used in a linear or rotary manner.
The Soft Play Equipment has many uses for the children who come to the Center. It is used for climbing activities as well as motor planning activities. When children are asked to "design" their own obstacle course, they must use their planning skills to come up with an idea. They must then execute the plan which requires a great deal of heavy work to lift and move the pieces of soft play. In the end, they have a chance to move through the course they created and share it with other children.
